Which Aircrafts Make The Flights From India to USA

There are only a handful of airplanes which can directly make flights from India to USA. The distance is particularly long - almost on the other side of the world. So, only a few airplanes are capable of such a long journey.

A Long Distance

Flights from India to USA are several thousand miles long; for instance from Mumbai to New York the distance is twelve and a half thousand kilometers or almost eight thousand miles. From New Delhi to Los Angeles is even longer: almost thirteen thousand kilometers. This is a long way for an airplane and a large amount of fuel is required to make such a journey.

The Airbus A380

One aircraft which can make flights from India to USA is the Airbus A380. This wide-body, "double decker" aircraft made the news when it entered commercial service in 2007. The four engines consume substantial, but the large fuel tanks mean this aircraft can travel vast distances with a large capacity of people and cargo. The A380 has a design range of just over 15,000km, so it would be able to make the journey from New Delhi to Los Angeles if it left will full fuel capacity.

At this point, none of the 77 Airbus A380 aircraft in service are used by Indian or American airline companies, so it is unlikely that they are actually making flights from India to USA yet. However, the aircraft is in active production, in both passenger and freight versions, so this is possible in the future.

The Boeing 747

The Boeing 747 is the original "Jumbo Jet", and entered service in 1969. This airplane is also a double decker, but does not have quite as many passengers as the Airbus A380. There have been six variations of the Boeing 747in the past 42 years of its use. Only the latest service version, the Boeing 747-400, has the range to make flights from India to USA; however, the range about 13,500km - a bit too close. It is likely that, for safety reasons, a Boeing 747 would stop for fuel if making such a long flight.

However, there is a planned new variation of the Boeing 747 being developed. This new version is likely going to extend the range of the aircraft in order to more directly compete with the Airbus A380. These two glorious aircrafts are capable of connecting two countries geographically so far apart. It truly is an exciting time in aviation - and a great time to take direct flights from India to USA.
